One of the most widespread views in mainstream economic thought is that redistribution is a bad thing, because high taxes and duties undermine productivity and eficiency and therefore it needs to be minimised if we wanted to accelerate economic development. The truth element in this view is minimal, though we know that myths are usually not maintained by real experience but by the ideological hegemony of special interests.
