I come to criticise Lukacs, not to praise him. A contribution at the presentation of the book: Lukacs Gybrgy es a szocialista alternativa [Gybrgy Lukacs and the Socialist Alternative] Budapest, Eszmelet Alapitvany -L’Harmattan, 2010

Lukács as his disciples the so-called Budapest School provided no economic philosophy foundations in his criticism of bureaucratic socialism. The democratic socialism presented by them remained an ideological construction that is why it could not compete with the capital that was gaining force.

On the sources of the world system analysis

Wallerstein defines the world-systems analysis in fact as a historical-social discipline developed after the World War II. But actually the capitalism theory elaborated by Marx and Engels was unquestionable a “world-systems” theory, which can be proven by many citations. They even studied the consequences of the surviving pre-capitalist relations. Nevertheless, the role of the world-systems analysis should be highlighted in understanding the present global capitalism as a unified system.

Ghettos in the occupied area of the Soviet Union

This study reveals an area of the holocaust, which is less discussed in the scientific literature in Hungary. The Nazis set up ghettos in the occupied soviet areas immediately. The author presents the conditions of establishing these ghettos, their way of operation and movingly depicts their life: the hardships facing inmates, and what could they achieve concerning education and health care.
