The existence and functioning of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has provoked debates almost since its foundation, which implies that international law and its institutions exist at the mercy of power politics and the balance of forces.

The global uniformisation of law is more advanced in the area of economic and commercial law than in criminal law. The legal regulation of the trans-border economic activity is not in contradiction with the liberalisation of world trade. It is in fact a precondition to the global efficiency of the market mechanism.

The study examines the relation between "existing socialism" and the diverse leftwing radical ideologies from a historic point of view. These, while founded on class based society, were uniform in the critique and refusal of the soviet type society. In the beginning leftwing radicals saw the cause of defeat of the revolution in the etatism of the Soviet sphere of interest, the emphasis shifted to the state capitalist character of "existing socialism". Although the leftwing radical movements marginalised after World War II and their arean has shrunk, it is worthwile to contemplate on the lessons of the critique for the end of state socialism.

Following the keynote essay of Peter Szigeti, the substance of the state socialist system the historic reasons of its failure and the theoretic possibilities of the perspective of socialism have been outlined in several studies. The most acute debate unfolded about the essence of the old regime in the conceptual frameworek terminological debate concerns all fundamental questions of the past and present including the interpretation of the system change. The study takes a stance in many theoretical questions, while only offering hypotheses in others suggesting that the debate inevitably continues.

The study presents the picture of socialism and the Soviet Union of three western intellectuals (Bertrand Russel, Victor Serge and Walter Citrine) who visited Russia in te revolutionary and Stalinist era. Based on Foucault's archeology of knowledge theory if attempts to unfold the mental schemes, which set the limits of cognition for the travellers in the first place.
