The article is a celebration of the 90 year old Paul Sweezy, who in 1966 – together with Paul Baran – provided an analysis of capitalism comparable to the works of Marx, Keynes, Kalecki and Schumpeter. The trends of capital accumulation and globalisation represent key features of the American economy in teh era of globalisation too.

The price of lasting growth

The author investigates the relationship between the so-called New Economy and the trade deficit of the US. The conclusion is that any economic analysis must take into account that the US is the home of the computer and teh information revolution, and the only remaining super power in the 1990s.
