On the intellectual mode of production

Contrary to the postmodernist critique, the authors believe that an enduring element of Marxist thought is the theory of modes of production. Marx was wrong, however, in believing that the working class could be the subject of new historic opportunities. Thus, the failure to create a basis for the unfolding of intellectual mode of production was perhaps the main reason for the fall of state socialism.

Conventional explanations of the sources of South Korean development by the World Bank and others are deeply flawed. Korea's export-led growth is not a result of free markets and free trade. Rather, both government intervention and discrimination against women have played roles. South Korea's experience leaves in question whether export-oriented growth can contribute to gender equality.
