Poland hosted a comprehensive international conference in 1997 on the martial law introduced in December 1981. The top headline at the conference was the publication of the notebook of Marshal Kulikov's secretary Viktor Anoshkin, who kept regular entries during the events. Many of the participants even questioned the authenticity of the document. Based on debates and events of the era and on other sources, the author of the study believes that the notebook is original. The bottom line was, of course, whether the Soviet Union should give military "help" to the Polish Communist Party to manage the situation.

The author summarises and analyses historical lessons from the 1956 workers councils. He shows that present-day falsifications and silence about the history of workers councils is related to the fact that the councils set up in factories and on the shop-floor aimed transforming state ownership to social ownership also rejecting the restoration of capitalism and fought against attempts bringing back private ownership.

Over the past years, writer Albert Wass has become known to an ever expanding range of readers and we can say also becoming a literary-political idol. His literary standard and works can be questioned but his commitment to extreme right, hungarist political views cannot.
