The military actions of Cuba in Africa between 1961 and 1988 or the internationalist help of Cuba to national liberation movements from Algeria though Congo, Angola and Mozambique are not counted as the most advertised events in the 20th century. Nevertheless as we can learn from the interview with Fidel Castro, Cuba had a decisive role in the military defence of the popular government of Angola, in breaking the military power of the white regime in South Africa thus helping the fall of apartheid or securing the independence of Namibia. Military developments peaked at the battle at Cuito Cuanavale.
