The Battle at Cuito Cuanavale

The military actions of Cuba in Africa between 1961 and 1988 or the internationalist help of Cuba to national liberation movements from Algeria though Congo, Angola and Mozambique are not counted as the most advertised events in the 20th century. Nevertheless as we can learn from the interview with Fidel Castro, Cuba had a decisive role in the military defence of the popular government of Angola, in breaking the military power of the white regime in South Africa thus helping the fall of apartheid or securing the independence of Namibia. Military developments peaked at the battle at Cuito Cuanavale.

Crafting the neoliberal state – Workfare, prisonfare and social insecurity

Against the marginalised, the neoliberal state uses both traditional negligence – They are responsible for their fate thus no intervention is needed – and punishing discipline against this group, in cases even tangible, direct and brutal oppression.
