November 1989 was a kind of "black Friday" for social science, since the fall of the Berlin Wall had not been predicted by the prevailing tendencies. Mainstream social science still struggles to find an adequate paradigm.

The tendencies born in the changes of 1989 created a semi-colonial capitalist regime, which quickly found their common features with the interwar counter-revolutionary systems. This has led to the rehabilitation of the Horty  regime in Hungary.

Most people are convinced it is good thing to have been schooled and it makes one able to make a judgement on facts and information as well as to think rationally. Educated peoples are supposed to be defenders of democracy. Empirical research, however, suggests that the main function of education is socialisation. It is absurd that the Bush administration wants to end terrorism by enhancing violence and opression. Terorism is not the disease but is a symptom.
